Rhys Bean: 14 years in the Jammie Army!

Meet Rhys Bean, Medical Radiation Technologist at Middlemore Hospital, photographed here with her skeletal sidekick from the x-ray team, kicking off their Jammie collection for 2024.

Rhys has been a steadfast advocate for the Jammies for June campaign for an incredible 14 years. We asked Rhys why she had been supporting Jammies for so many years, "It's just lovely to do it" she said. For Rhys, supporting Jammies for June is a genuine community effort that resonates deeply with the spirit of South Auckland and that everyone loves to participate.

Rhys loves how simple and easy it is to contribute – whether it's by adding a pair of cosy jammies to your shopping cart or donating online for the Middlemore Foundation to shop on your behalf. "It's a very simple thing to do and it has a big impact".  Rhys says adding, “especially this year when many families are struggling more than ever”.

Rhys rallies the Radiology department each year to join her efforts, and the team responds well with both clinical and clerical colleagues bringing in Jammies to pop in the collection box. Rhys believes it’s a great team-building exercise as well, with the department always having a lot of fun.

We asked Rhys for her advice to those new to Jammies. “Just do what you can to help the local community, every little bit helps”.

An enormous Thank you to Rhys for being in the Jammie Army since it began back in 2011! We look forward to seeing this year’s efforts soon!
